Mac Pro + Cinema Display (iSight), Leopard demo, Core 2 Duo iMac & MacBook Pro. New Nano's too (more storage + bluetooth)
Long shot, iPhone + iChat 4.0 (VoiP), Mac & Windows.
I can't see the Cinema Displays having built in iSight. I mean sure, it's useful - but what about people who work in environments where you can't have cameras (i.e. some pros) what about people who have dual monitors etc...I can't see it being feasible.

Due to moving countries for a year I had to stick with my iPhone 3G. When I get home again in the summer I'd rather not be buying into a year old device. :(

Summer lasts until September 23rd.
If it's going to be delayed that far, that's pretty far into both Verizon and AT&T's LTE rollout. I really hope this new phone has LTE. Apple was massively late to the game with 3G, I really don't want them to be massively late to 4G, too. (aka: I'm waiting for a 4G iPhone to upgrade, and I would rather upgrade sooner than later.)

That's not "Calendar" summer, it is based on cycles of the sun, precisely, the solstices and equinoxes. ;)

It would be fun to speculate what features Apple brings to the iPhone that could revolutionize the cell phone industry? My guess is 1) ease of use in updating contacts, calendar, emails 2) iPod music integration 3) high quality 640x480 mpeg4 videos and 4) leveraging in flash memory pricing
Good post. I'm still waiting for a phone that will easily (and thoroughly) sync with my Address Book and iCal, and I'm on the mac platform. So even some of the features you describe would be of immediate value to a lot of mac users.
But I'm guessing a slick phone that made it easy to have one's songs, contacts, and calendar always at hand would be a major force in the "Switch" campaign as well. Imagine if the phone/iPod windows users were using in the future could also do all those extra things--from the mac platform. I think a lot would find that irresistable.

Someone who worked across the aisle from me had a PowerCD connected to his Mac and it was really nice, but it was way too expensive. Then again, you could say that about any of the equipment at the time. It's become much better but the value is often not apparent to the majority of the people.
If I remember right, when a person removed the PowerCD from its stand to listen to the music on the run it failed to give good performance. Apple forgot to include any buffer memory and skips were more the event then not. At the time, less expenisive protable CD players had such buffer memory, so it was a real dumb move on Apple's part.

Other than confusing everyone with too many options, no.
If you're a teenage girl, your phone has to have a camera on it, meaning you'll have to go to Apple.com to custom-order it. That's complicated.
If you're a hiker, maybe you're going to want a phone with GPS, meaning you'll have to go to Apple.com to custom-order it. That's complicated.
If you're a huge multitasker, you're going to want PDA-functionality, meaning you'll have to go to Apple.com to custom-order it. That's complicated.
Very few people, I feel, will want a bare-bones phone... meaning most will have to go to Apple.com to custom-order it. That's too complicated for most people to do.
So in short, no, I don't think that'll work. Good idea, though. That way you'd get a phone with the features you want without the crap that you don't want. Unfortunately, as far as a particular model of phone goes, it's either all or nothing... and I don't think Apple will want to release 18 different models of phone, each with different capabilities... that's worse than BTO.

The problem with "the masses" out there (especially in the U.S.) is that they are so uneducated, unsophisticated, unsavvy, and generally lazy, that ANY solution that isn't served up to them, lock stock and barrel, on a silver platter, automatically will wind up excluding probably a bit north of 70% of the population, and that might simply be me being a bit generous.
Heck, in this country, people don't even educate themselves enough to know not to put scorchingly-hot coffee between their legs in a fast-food drive-through. And having had five years' experience as tech support at Sony Electronics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_CISC) I can tell you that most people don't know -- and don't want to know -- anything about the devices they use. They've grown up and been raised to simply hand the keys to their lives over to someone else. Otherwise, if they had to actually use their minds and *think* something through, well, they don't have time for all that.

The rumors talking about the iPad 3 are mostly saying it would be a different model than the current iPad. There's multiple Macbook Pros. Don't be surprised if there are multiple iPads, like an iPad pro.

Agreed, if you look at technical specifications, you can find newer tech on the market with more features. That's sort of the leapfrog game that all phones play.
Apple is unlike other phone manufacturers in that they don't get all feverish about playing the game. They look at the big picture: does the phone do what the consumer wants it to do. Apple makes sure the technical specifications of the iPhone stay current with that mandate for the largest class of consumer. It's the other companies chasing Apple that keep trumping their own tech specs with newer tech specs in the hopes of drawing a larger audience. Apple takes a longer view.

Most people don't understand the fundamental differences between iDisk and Drop Box. If Apple was to build a front end to iDisk that stored the file locally and then sync'd over WebDAV in the background they'd be able to offer the same performance.
Prefrences > mobile me > iDisk ...Set iDisk syncing on and a local cache of your iDisk is created and synced automatically. Just like dropbox.

I've now read through all 48 comments and I just ordered the Tom Tom Car Kit for $87....here's why. At this price, its a phenomenal deal for the following reasons:
a) I needed a Bluetooth Speakerphone (the law in CA) and was looking at the BluAnt for $79. For a few dollars more, I get a lot more.
b) I love that it is a powered cradle/dock as the current one I have is always a hassle trying to plug in for power, and these apps drain power big time. I use Navigon....it's fabulous.
c) I can directly connect the 3.5mm line out right into my car system and even plug in an FM transmitter when I travel to output the sound from my iPhone 3Gs. Now I can tuck these cables away leaving enough slack to turn it to landscape, but its all ready to use by just snapping the phone in.
d) The enhanced gps receiver chip seems to make quite a difference in the numerous tests you can view on Youtube. Much faster response time when re-routing occurs in "low signal areas". One test in particular left the un-aided iPhone without a signal for quite a long time. Even if we all start using the new Google Maps app, this chip will greatly enhance its performance, too.
e) Landscape mode is fast and easy which is not available in my current dock configuration. A simple, no frills dock like the Kensington that has no power connect, no bluetooth speakerphone, no gps chip, etc lists for $40.
This purchase at this price is a no brainer.

I would like to hear what sorts of reason Apple would use to make such a decision, if believable at all. If the architecture is headed in the right direction, then it would be nice to know why. At the end of the day, the ppc to intel switch had a relatively small impact on the rest of us.

What I've wondered since they killed the xServe is what they plan to fill their new data center with. Mac Pros on shelves? 1 billion minis? They aren't going to run it all on PCs. It would be a marketing disaster.
