McAfee Marketing Department at work yet again.

I bet McAfee also creates the disease and the cure.

Just like the song, "Misery" (by Soul Asylum)

McAfee is struggling for business and it's a shame they use fear tactics to get dumb people to buy their products.

    -------

    "Misery" (by Soul Asylum)(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLQ2TIul8pI)

    They say misery loves company
    We could start a company
    And make misery, Frustrated Incorporated
I know just what you need
I might just have the thing
I know what you'd pay to see

Put me out of my misery
I'd do it for you, Would you do it for me?
We will always be busy, making misery

We could build a factory, and make misery
We'll create the cure, we made the disease
    Frustrated Incorporated, Frustrated Incorporated

I know just what you need
I might just have the thing
I know what you'd pay to feel

Put me out of my misery
    Suicide kings and drama queens
    Forever after happily making misery

Did you satisfy your greed, get what you need
Was it only envy, so empty

    Frustrated incorporated...

I'd do it for you, would you do it for me?

"I'm 16 and I'm an awesome driver" is BS. THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-6UCv4etyk) is what I think of when I think of awesome 16-year-old drivers flying down an interstate thinking they own the road. And the driver of this car was a teen.

But Don would never do that, he is an experienced driver for a 16 year old. And he was only doing 90, not 100. Big difference. There would barely be any damage if he hit a bridge at 90 - nothing that wouldn't buff out with a bit of polish and some elbow grease. Not that he'd ever have to worry about that, because Don is such an awesome driver, he'd never hit the bridge.

Dude, it's a MacWorld convention, not an environmental love-in. GP needs to get their own convention. They were on private property - the conf organizers have the right to do what they want. Never mind their rights, huh?

Hmmmm, so what you're saying is that a quiet protest (which as an eye-witness I can say this was!!) about a subject they feel strongly about isn't allowed at certain conventions because of the political orientation of the people in charge.

The whole point of the MacExpo is to show the services that Apple and its Third-Party agents can supply to the public. I don't see what the harm is in advertising what they DON'T offer (ie:- in the opinion of Greenpeace - a sound environmental agenda) at the same time.

I'm not going to side with any particular viewpoint about Apple's "green policy" here, as I simply have not read enough about it to convey an honest and balanced opinion. however I do feel that it is within Greenpeace's right to advertise the issues they feel strongly about in an orderly manner (which as far as I'm concerned they did on Thursday!).

    LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ikea-union-20110410,0,4172495,full.story)

Well, the right has gotten what it wants. Low wages, no benefits, non-union jobs.

    What next? Reintroduction of slavery?

Current and former plant employees said they resented the unpredictable work hours and high-pressure atmosphere. The plant assesses penalty points for violations of work rules; workers who accumulate nine of them can be fired.

"It's the most strict place I have ever worked," said Janis Wilborne, 63, who worked at the plant for two years and quit last year.

Six African American employees have filed discrimination complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, claiming that black workers at Swedwood's U.S. factory are assigned to the lowest-paying departments and to the least desirable third shift, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

"If we put in for a better job, we wouldn't get it it would always go to a white person," said Jackie Maubin, who worked the night shift in the packing department until last year, when she was fired on her birthday.

Swedwood has been trying to settle four of the discrimination complaints through mediation. The company initially offered Maubin $1,000. She settled for $2,000. She said she needed the money to keep her car from being repossessed.

This sounds like IKEA is the one being a bitch.

Some of the Virginia plant's 335 workers are trying to form a union. The International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said a majority of eligible employees had signed cards expressing interest.

In response, the factory part of Ikea's manufacturing subsidiary, Swedwood hired the law firm Jackson Lewis, which has made its reputation keeping unions out of companies. Workers said Swedwood officials required employees to attend meetings at which management discouraged union membership.

Plant officials didn't return calls and declined to meet with a Times reporter who visited the Virginia facility. Swedwood spokeswoman Ingrid Steen in Sweden called the situation in Danville "sad" but said she could not discuss the complaints of specific employees. She said she had heard "rumors" about anti-union meetings at the plant but added that "this wouldn't be anything that would be approved by the group management in Sweden."

I can't see how this is "the right's" fault. If so, why doesn't "the left" step in a help out?

So did you opt-in that the government / law enforcement gets the tracking data of your phone (smart-phone,dumb-phone,whatever-phone) .... well does not really matter because they don't care if you opted in or not, they just store it on THEIR server (which is quite different than having it on my phone and my laptop with only me having access ... well its still stored on the government server)

It's not the same issue. This is a problem with people close to you, be it a spouse, boyfriend, relative, or for that matter a cop lifting information from your phone.

Personally, I encrypt, I restrict access. So this isn't a problem for me, but that doesn't mean that I don't see the major problem with it.

No mention of App store. I was just watching the video recently and found it interesting.

    The Greenpeace Apple micro site
    http://www.greenpeace.org/apple/
is surely a good thing for Apple.
It is organisations like Greenpeace who are driving the agenda, because goverments and manufacturing companies are too complacent.
They should be welcomed with open arms at Mac Expo:rolleyes:

I thought this was an FCC mandate (to track GPS information for cellphones) after 9/11. The real issue is that this is not encrypted in anyway so anybody can get the information if they have access to the file.

The excuse wasn't that 9/11 it was 911. There were some highly publicized cases of people dialing 911 from their cell phones and the emergency personnel being unable to find them. So of course new laws were passed.

Because people are stupid, that's why.

No one realistically games on a Macbook Air.

Thanks for calling me stupid. I play my steam bought games on my nVidia equipped Air. I don't have much choice this being my only computer.

And the SNB IGP is actually very capable. Their GMA offerings have generally always been crap but the 3000 is quite the opposite.

It's still less capable than nVidia's 320M which is what now, 2 years old ? Good job Intel! Always behind by a generation. Keep them graphics coming.

That said, the main use for the Air is as an ultraportable. And the improved battery life and lowered heat output are major advantages for an ultraportable that only a moron would ignore.

Then I'm a moron. I'd rather have the current 7 hours of battery life and current "heat" (what heat ? My MBA doesn't "heat up" at all, even compared to my old MacBook) than a downgraded GPU.

Drop the name calling. The major advantage of an ultra-portable is size and weight. This is why I bought the Air. If it didn't have a 1440x900 screen or a 320M, I wouldn't have bothered to upgrade the MacBook.

Playing Wow on 11" must be quite an experience. One must be quite an addict in order to want to play Wow on an MBA while on the go, I did hear that game was highly addicting. So, from a point of view, I understand the position of the people you call "stupid".

Why assume people want to game on the go ? I don't game on the go with my MBA, I usually use it to VPN to work on the go or to do some hobby programming. However, when home, I plug it into my external monitor and I game there. Why wouldn't people with 11" do the same ? Play some WoW/StarCraft/Civilization/Portal/Whatever at home when "docked", unplug and take the laptop on the Go for other tasks they need to do away from home ?

Are you guys so short sighted you can't see a lot of us don't have 2 computers ? What's the use when the MBA is capable of everything ?

The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.

Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
I've searched for address bus width for the Core 2 line, but haven't found anything. It is, however, not likely that Intel downgraded the width from the previous models, which would mean either a 36 or a 40 bit bus. Also note that AMD's K8 (Athlon 64, Sempron and Opteron) also feature a 40 bit address bus and not 64 as someone might think. I also think that the G5 uses a 40 or 42 bit address bus, so it's pretty much the same there too.

So, if Core 2 has a 40 bit bus (which is likely) you end up with 1TB of addressable memory space.

Also, Core 2 CPUs are fully capable of running 64 bit code. Whether the address bus is 64 bits wide or not hasn't got anything to do with the width of the internal data path and execution unit width.

I agree that $14.99 is way too high for a downloadable movie. Most retailers sell new DVD releases on sale for the week they are released, usually for $2 - $3 less than that -- and that's for a DVD! $9.99 is doable, but not $14.99.

I'm chasing the 32GB RAM option (http://blog.saers.com/archives/2011/05/03/new-mid-2011-imacs-and-32gb-ram/) for the 27" iMac

Be careful! Those RAM modules from Amazon are full size DIMM modules. The iMac needs the smaller SO-DIMM modules though - they won't fit.

I absolutely agree. This is the same reason why I was hoping the USB 3.0 would be on this version. I realize now that is almost certainly not going to happen. I just thought that with so many PC's (including some PC laptops) already offering USB 3.0 that maybe the brand spankin' new iMac might be so equipped.

show me the law that says it'l illegal to notify other drivers of a cop checking speeds, or to notify the position of a DUI check point.

Maybe it's not illegal everywhere. I was always taught that it was illegal, for example, to flash your lights to oncoming traffic in order to warn of a speed trap. I grew up in North Carolina. Maybe it's only illegal there.

As for notifying of the position of a DUI check, maybe it's not illegal, but perhaps it should be? If it's not illegal, then these programs are doing wrong, so why pull them?

I simply maintain that pulling the programs will simply mean that people will share the information via some other method, and I even made a prediction of the method they will use. It would actually surprise me if it's not already in use that way.

The new 'pod pricing seems to be at the old Education Store levels anyway. So basically they got rid of it for students and gave it to everyone.

That's right, the 5G 60Gb was $369 normally, and with the Educational discount it was $349, and the 30Gb was the same way $269 vs. $249. I least I think that's right?

I see people still talking about big announcements at the Paris expo. Considering there will be NO keynote of any kind I find it unlikely.

Agreed. There won't be anything of import in Paris itself. But Apple may release updates in conjunction with the Expo from their Cupertino campus.

That should make the Expo organizers _really_ happy!
