apple doesnt aim their market at people who shop for those computers, simple as that.
iJonand since Apple is missing the market so bad its sales have sunk to the lowest % in its history. there will come a point that it wont matter how much money is in their bank because no one will be buying the stuff. Look at iJon even he uses a PC for gaming. most people dont have a pc and a Mac so what do they buy? a PC.

Honestly with the new Quad Core MBP lineup it makes much more sense to get a monitor and add it to your notebook than to get an iMac. (Unless you really need 16GB of ram vs 8GB).
I can see one day only having the Mac Pro for those of use that need one (video editing, digital creation etc) and the high-powered MBP for those who don't want a tower.
You are absolut right. There are fewer and fewer reasons to get a desktop. Internal storage options and main memory are the remaining main reasons - otherwise, laptops got so powerful that they can act desktop replacement. I still like to have my iMac (and will get a new one), but guess I'm a bit 'old fashioned' here - I also have a MacBook Pro and can do everything there that I can do on my iMac.
I can see one day only having the Mac Pro for those of use that need one (video editing, digital creation etc) and the high-powered MBP for those who don't want a tower.

I think there are quite a few users who think the same and would like to see a downgraded Mac Pro for switchers who can then keep some of their hardware.
And Intel makes a chip just for that market segment - the Conroe. :D

i highly highly doubt they are calling it the "macbook air." that's borderline laughable.

I'm sorry, why is their target audience dwindling?It all comes down to how much extra you are willing to pay for the increased monitor specification. Most will pay 20% very few will pay 75%.

They are not going to announce this at WWDC. Just cause its the next big event does not mean anything. They would certainly give this its own event.

I really don't want to buy a Macbook Pro until it has Merom, 802.11n, and blue-ray, cause I know those are all going to be standard in less than a year and I can't afford to have a crippled laptop for 3 yrs.

It's not a terribly big concern for everybody I'll admit but for those it is a concern to, this is a sale killer for all of these little GPS enabled electronics. Their safety is worth waay more to them than some piddly little iToy or other GPS enabled microdevice. Even normal cell phones and credit cards allow for too much risk.

FORGET SIRIUS... Its not gonna happen. Why implement somthing that can ony be used in the USA. There are more countries in the world thaty buy ipods. If you want sirius buy a device with sirius, dont put this crap which only you people can use on ipods.

Ooh. Thought you were talking about the installs for both previews. I installed developer preview 2 over the first, so I didn't realize. It still doesn't sound very accurate to me.

That's right (at least from my personal experience). Lion currently uses system files and services from Snow Leopard to reduce its size.

Provided they move the current Core Duo model down to the $US599 price point with the specs intact, I'll be happy.
My main concerns are to ditch the Core Solo and to lose the combo drive (a bit too 2002 when the rest of the world is offering DVD burners in everything but their $US299 base models). An 80GB HDD (rather than 60GB) to compete with all these cheapies would also be nice.

I used to be so eager for this to happen. I dreamed of Hi-Def movies on demand with iTunes music store karma. As far as rent vs buy - I see that alot of people are upset with the rental model for movies. I'm in the other camp. I don't want to own my movies. I want to watch them, then move on to the next flick when it's convenient. That being said, unless Apple can deliver Hi-Def movies to my HDTV I'll just wait for my forthcoming Playstation 3 and rent Blu-Ray titles from NetFlix (http://www.netflix.com/BrowseSelection?sgid=2444&hnjr=3). By Q1 '07 there should be a lot more movies for Blu-Ray ...and the karma with NetFlix isn't so bad I guess :o

Honestly I'm excited for this release. I'm a film major and use nothing but Final Cut and sometimes Imovie. People need to stop complaining about IMovie being DUMBED DOWN. It came free on my computer and honestly shouldn't be difficult to use if you're not working on difficult projects. IMovie is perfect for those who make videos and put some extras in it, but that's it. If anything the product that is DUMBED DOWN includes better looking fonts and font effects than final cut has. I find myself exporting videos from Final Cut and then finishing them in IMovie because there's better looking things I can add to my video. Anyway, can't wait for this to be released.

To each his own. But come on. 497 days worth of music? That's almost a year and a half of listening to music 24 hours a day without listening to the same song twice. I think you'd have to replace the battery before then.

I think everyone has touched on an important issue with this: it is not a good that is going to be embraced by the public, at least anytime soon. Who really wants to rent a movie for a few dollars so they can watch it on their iPod (and can iPods even last through a whole movie??). Anyway, I'm not impressed and this smells of a 'too soon' move.

If they bring out a core2duo mac mini it will be faster than my 18month old power mac.Duh. Welcome to the completed transition. I need to run a few tests to confirm this once they are out, but I think any Core 2 Mac may be faster than the Dual 2GHz G5 PowerMac from October of 2005.cant see it happening, they might go for a faster core duo in the mac mini and macbook then core 2 duo in iMac and Macbook proThen you are in denial. Core Duo is already history. And Apple doesn't like to be selling historical artifacts any longer than they must - especially when the new state-of-the-art processors don't cost them any more. :rolleyes:I don't think we are going to see Core Duos in Apples for much longer, though it is possible that the base Mini will offer a Core Duo, and the better model a Core 2 Duo.
Still, I think it much more likely that with this revision, both Minis will sport Core 2 Duos, probably Meroms to keep them quiet and lower-powered, and will feature the 965 graphics chipset which frankly is a very nice and inexpenisve graphics solution.
What I am really hoping is that there will be an add-on base module in a similar form factor to turn any Mini into a full-blown HD/Audio media centre. Now that could really be exciting. While Tivos and Sky+ boxes are welcome in my home, we are just aching for someone to really rethink the entire home media experience. Rovio's generic use of the word "App Store(s)" made me think about this issue when I watched the trailer with my daughter the other day.

As does NATO and er the Saudis who have more than France.The U.K. has wasted billions trying to make it's own version rather than the Boeing one everyone now uses.(except the Russians and possibly the Chinese who have their own AWACS.)

From everything I can tell, the movie trailers in Front Row are 480p.
I don't think Apple would want to go below this movie trailer quality. Let's HOPE they don't want to. :)
480p would be impressive to sell at $10 and $15 IMHO. To get it delivered directly to your computer in 2-3 hours. Remember, 480p could look better than a DVD, since DVDs are 480i. Of course, it would look better unless they end up putting too much compression on the 480p.

For the US it was definitely our first bright and shining moment on the international stage and it has gained mythological status.
Off Topic from Lybia. In some way I think WWII (or parts of it) has become a bit too mythological. Oh, and I am personally getting tired of hearing "The Greatest Generation" line getting used all the time by prominent figures in the country.

i hope theres a new mac mini soon id plan to get one but i plan to put boot camp on and play my matrix online and i pray this version does not have shared graphics cause for my game it is herendus playin the game
