I wonder if support is really there or just the ability to identify the cards.
It's possible, though I can't imagine why Apple would do it. Apart from offering marginally more friendly errors ("Oh, I see you have a new AMD Radeon HD 6970. Sorry, we don't support that") - which of course you couldn't see anyway since the screen probably wouldn't work.. ;)
The only need for device identifiers that I can see is for devices which are supported, or are soon to be.

The more I read the stuff you post, the more I shake my head.
He's young. 16 if I read his other post correctly about the wedding. So his attitude towards driving is expected. I used to streetrace after I got my license and held similar disdain for autos and people driving autos (including my dad). Experience and age mellows attitudes..... sometimes.... hehe.....

Anybody else notice that they predicted increased revenue but decreased net income? That SCREAMS to me that they plan on selling some unreleased lower-margin products. It pretty much has to be something large considering everything is getting cheaper as time goes by so we're either talking about processor updates across the board, a drop in price (MacBook 999 anyone? ;) or an updated nano with greater storage capacity at same price points. I would tend to think it's the latter seeing as how that would directly correlate to an increase in sales but a decrease in margin. Any other thoughts??

It costs me nothing to walk into town (about 10 minutes) or bike (5) and pick up a DVD at the municipal library for �1.50. Occasionally I'll copy it to my hard disk if I didn't have the time I thought I would have to watch it and watch it later, then delete it.
Unlike music, you rarely watch a movie twice. Why buy or store these on your hard disk for longer than it takes to view it?
I've not bought a movie since 1995 on VHS. It's was just kind of silly having them litter up your shelves then and your hard disk now.

...is an ipod that is just about music and nothing else. and yeah the sound quality of the classic thats out right now does suck...i'd like to see improved battery life, higher quality chips (DAC, amps,...), digital output, maybe airplay - and all of that in a sexy, indestructable metal case with a click wheel and a small non touch display...

The Developer copies of XCode now cross compile for 5 architectures but I'd have to kill you if I listed all the Instruction sets currently supported. The new build of Stuffit Expander 11 UNIVERSAL is now 427 MB. ROCK ON Obese-Binaries.

A number of observers have pointed out that Apple did respond to location-tracking concerns (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/20/apple-responds-to-questions-about-location-tracking-and-privacy/) last July, noting that such information could be collected, batched, and sent to Apple to assist with generating and refining its database of cellular and Wi-Fi access points for providing location services. Location tracking is also used to aid in targeting iAds to customers based on their geographic region, although this information is not passed on to advertisers.
Once sent to Apple, it should be removed from the phone though, which is not happening right now according to reports. This is wrong. The problem isn't the feature per say, it's the persistence of this database and it's very accurate, low-resolution.

The first is the dermaSHOT (http://www.myincipio.com/product/IPOD_TOUCH_IP-900/iPod-touch-4G-dermaSHOT-Silicone-Case---Black.html). I am worried, however, that I will have the same problem with lint-magnet, because it is also made of silicone. Any ideas there?
That�s the case I have (see my notes in post #44 of this thread). It�s not �sticky� so no problems grabbing dust or lint...at least I haven�t had any problems that way.
My only concern is that it�s not as snug top to bottom as it should be. Not so loose it�s going to slip out, but feels like there�s a little play in it when you push the power button off and on.

it's not unreasonable to assume that Apple could get the Yonah chips for less than Merom ones.
Are the Yonah chips being phased out now that Merom is coming on line?

It does feel very slick though, app launch times, the smoothness of the animations and scrolling all make the machine feel MUCH faster than it does in Snow Leopard.
I've had that problem in both developer previews as well. At first I didn't mind it, but the more it happens the more annoying it gets.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that really likes the look of the new ical

Exciting though this is, try and get some sleep people. Most Mac nuts have had the experience of staying up all night before a big Apple show (as I have) and while it can be fun to do once, it also raises your hopes so much that you feel let down unless something truly spectacular is unveiled. Luckily for me I have to be all night for other reasons anyway ;)
