It's so close to labia, that I get excited. :o
I was under the impression he was referring to the 'Lybia' in the thread title.

I'd just like to agree with those who have pointed out that the main thing Apple's monitor division should be worrying about is price, not new sizes - the Apple logo can bear a certain price premium but not that much, especially as they don't yet include Apple-specific goodness such as integrated isight etc.

Beating a dead horse...
In October, I considered a 23" ACD at 848 inc. VAT, delivery and 3yrs of Applecare cover.
Instead, I phoned Dell and got the 24" 2407WP for 549.08 inc. VAT, delivery and 4yrs next business day swap-out cover. For the Apple, I would have had to pay a premium of 55% and got 1yr less cover.
Good for you.
Yeah Apple is really screwing us over, man oh man. And look at NEC, they must be absolutely mad to charge $2000 for their MultiSync LCD2190UXi (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10754)
You made the right choice for your needs and your price. You bought a consumer monitor.
If people want to say that Apple should make a consumer level LCD (for cheap) than say so. But please, for the love of all things, stop dissing on Apple monitors just because you are happy with a Dell and they are cheaper. Many people are Happy with cheapo computers, and if all you need is to write and print word documents, do not buy an Apple computer. However that doesn't mean that Apple doesn't make a computer worth it's weight in gold... for those that need it.
If you don't need color accuracy, DO NOT BUY AN APPLE MONITOR, there are cheaper monitors that, though less accurate, will satisfy you just fine.

I agree ... interesting progress this UN decision has become, the Arab partners seem to now be on the fence.
They called for the NFZ, then they backed away, and now they are supporting it again. They will have to be coaxed into taking any sort of action.
Getting Gaddafi to step down seems like a logical solution ... however that may not happen if he tries to all of a sudden play ball a bit.
I think that allowing Gaddafi to remain in power at this point is not an option for anything but the immediate short-term. But it is the Libyan people who ultimately must remove him. The rebels' policy is ending the Gaddafi regime, and they have refused to negotiate on that point. Currently they have a strong hand - as long as they can keep Gaddafi at bay (effectively with coalition help) he will go nowhere. At best he can try to hold on to Tripoli and the remaining loyalist towns. Any attempt to re-take rebel-held territory will be opposed by both the rebels and the UN-mandated coalition.
Stalemate plays into the hands of the rebels in the long term.
One point that has gone largely undiscussed is the situation in Tobruk - it's a critical port city and so far has seen little if any conflict. The official statements by the Benghazi-based rebel organization seem to indicate that Tobruk's government is sitting on the fence a bit in officially joining their movement, even though they are obviously anti-Gaddafi.

Thank you, right on time.
And also, it is exactly the FCP interface we've had since the beginning. And the beginning of time. (it really only depends on which elements you want to emphasize.)
Well I really can't judge it until I'm actually able to touch and use it myself, but from the looks, they've gone consumer. *here's hoping for the best* I really want it to work... but Adobe is looking better by the day.

If I remember correctly, Job's intent of the Mini was BYOM,K,M.
(Bring your own monitor, keyboard and mouse) The mini is for those
who already have these things. Get an iMac instead. In other words,
I see no need for a 17" monitor - especially wide screen.
A 17" iMac would be less expensive than a Mini and a 17" monitor plus
you would get dedicated graphics.

It's funny because it's true. ;)
Steve Jobs is right on the ball, though. Notice how important OpenCL has been since its introduction. It's blowing the doors off the rest of the Windows world! Now watch as Thunderchicken rules the school with exactly zero products for it! Apple has been doing a good job of being "first" in areas that don't matter one bit and being years and years behind in areas that do matter (e.g. Blu-Ray, USB3, OpenGL, etc.)
Maybe I'm behind with the times, but I have no idea what OpenCL is. Apple has been known for supporting their standards no matter what sometimes.

I can't believe that MS still holds J. Allard as a big ruling leader
There is a 40 minute podcast on Inside Home Recording that has J.Allard singing the praises of the Zune to a group of music/podcast/executive types at the 2006 Music Tech Summit. Great listening, and he explains the features of Zune media player, plus reasons for whoring with Universal Music.

Despite the freaked brigade and people wanting to turn this into a huge political argument I think this guy at Reddit had the best thing to say about this:
Yes they probably need to encrypt this to keep thieves and insane people from taking it from your phone but it's nothing that other cellular providers aren't doing with their phones, you just can't see it necessarily.
I do think that guy is right and it is only about caching the cell tower locations. I baffles me however which idiot engineer at Apple thought it would be good idea to store those locations along with detailed timestamps unencrypt and even move it to the next phone if you happen to switch phones. If you work on such a high profile system, you need to make smarter decisions than that.
The second thing that baffles me is Apples blatant incompetence handling these kind of situations. Haven't they learnd anything from antenna gate? Sitting on your ass for several days having the internet raging and the evening news reporting on this stuff without a word, is horrible press. It is more than day since the story broke and no official word from Apple yet .. good job people, let the field to the raging internet mob and the incompetent news crews.

In Libya, there's a massive peace movement against Gaddafi. You don't have that in country "X".
I think that really depends on what country "X" is, and on your perspective.
Is this the peace movement you mean?
http://media.cleveland.com/world_impact/photo/libya-rebels-ras-lanuf-030511jpg-47d8f70bb90b2259.jpg
this isn't forcefully spreading democracy like Bush did...
Yet.
Plus we aren't sending in a ground force to occupy the country if we did that I would have a problem with it.
Are missiles okay? How about bombs?

Yes living in th UK is like punishment for being born at the moment. Can I stay with you in Aussie? I have a G5 and a MacBook you can use. :D
To think you guys thought it was punishment to ship us here. I laugh
I already have one of each, though my MacBook does randomly shut down. But another G5, hmmmm, well i don't use my Quad with 4gb 1tb 7800 to its potential anyway.
Once again the UK is redundant. Wait until we play England in the Ashes, omg, we are going to destroy you.

Even though Apple is Apple, going up against Amazon, which will have more movie options at the time of launch is going to be tough...
unless... they release some sort of new hardware [full screen ipod, plzkthx] that will take the spotlight.
Here's hoping for "one more thing"... on Sept 12.

I should be posting to the 'update before the holiday season' string to help it get to 4000 posts - but I was wondering at what time of day would an update happen, were it to happen?
Anywhere from 7AM to 4PM Pacific Time... Most silent updates tend to go live between 7 and 9 AM. But I have to say that I'm only mildly hopeful for tomorrow -- Wednesday makes a lot more sense.

I don't think there's been any compelling evidence to support that, sadly. At least, several very seemingly viable component technologies, such as ULV C2D's, are not available yet.
.
not only that, but none of the rumors really pointed to MWSF for a compact Macbook.

Not getting any of these at all.
I suspect that a particular application causes these crashes as this behavior only exists on one account of my machine. However, I have not been able to pin down the culprit...
Does anyone know what the following error message in the crash report may indicate?
xpchelper registration failed for sandbox candidate.: _xpc_connection_send_serializer_to_port() returns NULL

i have recently bought ipod touch 4g ...i am looking for ipod touch 4g cases that provide my ipod a stylish and modish look and protect my pod from scratches and fits perfectly.
Well, I'm not sure if they have any yet, but Vaja is very nice and cool. Fairly expensive though. You could also get a BodyGuard or BSE or Invisible Shield if you would like to still see the Touch and have it be thin.

Wouldn't it make sense to put an HD tuner in the new displays along with the iSight? .. that would make it pretty easy to rip videos and sync onto the video iPod and i'm guessing you could have an iTV app that's as easy to use as iTunes .. change the TV/monitor market in much the same way that they helped to change the home stereo market .. hrrm.
